Teacher Training and New Technologies in Education

Description: To investigate the initial and continuous formation in the different levels and spaces of education, referenced by the socio-political, historical and cultural relations for the reach of the teaching. The construction of the identity of the teacher through the trajectories of formation, production of knowledge and teacher learning, seeking the development at a professional level. The themes that will be addressed in teacher training involve challenges in terms of conceptions, attitudes, action and interlocution of the styles of new knowledge. To investigate the influence of New Technologies on the teaching-learning relationship, both as support for established procedures and the design of innovative processes, aiming at the acquisition and reinvention of differentiated skills by teachers during their professional training. It also contemplates the elaboration of innovative platforms and models in education, based on the New Technologies of Information and Communication.

GT 1 NEW TECHNOLOGIES OF TEACHING AND LEARNING

PROJECT: PEDAGOGICAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL MEDIATION IN IMERSIVE ENVIRONMENTS

PROFESSOR RESPONSIBLE: Alvino Moser
DESCRIPTION: This project aims at the study, development and application of educational processes in virtual immersive environments as a form of pedagogical and technological mediation. It aims at teacher training at elementary and secondary education, training teachers in the applied use of such technologies. These environments are ways of arousing emotion and motivation for learning (OECD) and for this, it provides the construction of tools provided by the same environment, based on Johan Huizinga, Karl Kapp, Marc Prensky, Amy Jo Kim, Jane MacConnigal, Mihály Csíksentmihalyi, Eric Zimmerman, Luciano Meira among others. The study of neuropsychology (Gerald Edelman, Etienne Wenger, Nicholas Carr and Eric Kandel) will be considered. Throughout the project the researchers will be challenged to produce scientific texts, seminars and product presentations.

PROJECT: COMPUTATIONAL SIMULATION AND EDUCATIONAL ROBOTICS

PROFESSOR RESPONSIBLE: Dr. Luciano Frontino de Medeiros
DESCRIPTION: “This project contemplates the creation, development and application of software and hardware simulators in proposals aimed at improving the teaching and learning processes. The use of simulators in the educational area presents potential for the adoption of tools that can complement the teaching and learning processes in different teaching modalities. The project provides for the construction of simulators with embedded artificial intelligence to provide better interaction with content learners, such as personal and cognitive assistants developed in previous projects. The hardware simulation predicts educational robotics considered from low-cost modular proposals, using recyclable and reusable materials, as well as parts and components built on 3D printers. Such projects will be considered for the training of primary and secondary school teachers, aiming to train teachers in the applied use of such technologies in inter and multidisciplinary processes of teaching and learning.

PROJECT: CULTURAL INDUSTRY AND NEW EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

PROFESSOR RESPONSIBLE: Dr. Rodrigo Otávio dos Santos
DESCRIPTION: The research project in Cultural Industry and new educational technologies aims to research about educational phenomena that can be optimized or reinforced through elements of the Cultural Industry and its communication force in the most different spheres of society. The cultural industry, coined and disseminated by the Frankfurt school from the 1930s mainly with Walter Benjamin, Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer, helps us to better understand relatively recent phenomena in society, and through it we can explain phenomena such as photography, cinema, television, the internet and various other media that use the symbolic goods market, as Bourdieu would say.
Today we can say, as does McLuhan, that we are immersed in a daily life where these forms of communication surround us in such a way that we can not remain unrelated. Even if we try, we can not stay away. Mass communication is one of the greatest influencers in the contemporary world, and we are even unhealthy about it. Thus, in order to take advantage of the ubiquity of the relationship between people and cultural products, we propose a research project that aligns education to the communicational phenomenon, since much of the educational process takes place in the form of communication. Thus, we will use any tools of the cultural industry to promote a better teaching-learning relationship. Among them, we can highlight the games and video games (videogames), cinema, video, music, comics, dance, internet social networks, blogs and any other support that can help students from different levels of education, postgraduate courses and also free courses or even self-learning. In the educational question, we will guide in several authors like Tori, Prensky, Lemos, Napolitano, Ramos, Vergueiro, Ferreira among many others. The research will be carried out through meetings of the research group and the unfolding of these meetings for articles and master’s dissertations of the students, trying their best to bring the results of these to the community, for the application in different educational contexts.

PROJECT: TEACHER TRAINING IN THE CONTEXT OF ITS PRACTICE: SIGNIFICANT INTEGRATION OF ICT

PROFESSOR RESPONSIBLE: Dr. Luana Priscila Wunsch
DESCRIPTION: This research project seeks answers to a challenge that educational institutions, whether private or public, are currently facing: teacher training in a contextualized way to their daily practice, to the specificities of their students’ learning, to their reality in the different levels of education – Basic Education and Higher Education,
To do so, based on the theoretical studies of António Nóvoa and David Ausubel, the researchers have as objectives:
– Participate in debates on: the practice of Brazilian teachers in the 21st century, the role of information and communication technologies (ICT) in order to optimize the quality of teacher and student learning; teacher training for meaningful learning in a school context; learning community; shortening the distances between University and School, theory about training and effective practice of the teacher;
– Map the existing technological resources in educational institutions and their possible pedagogical applicability;
– Organize, and implement, an intervention plan, in which a course of teacher training in context is based on the teacher’s lesson plan;
– Be a member of a learning community about teacher education.
Through the scope presented, the mission of the project stands out in general: the creation of a network of knowledge that can address the individual and collective dimensions for the potential of multiple and varied learning situations for the teacher with whom teachers can act as innovative professionals in an evolving digital culture.

WG 2 DISTANCE EDUCATION

PROJECT: TEACHING AND LEARNING FOR HYBRID EDUCATION AND DISTANCE EDUCATION

PROFESSOR RESPONSIBLE: Dr. Siderly do Carmo Dahle de Almeida
DESCRIPTION: In dealing with Distance Education – Distance Education, it is important to remember that the Administrative Rule no. 4,059, dated December 10, 2004, in its art. Paragraph 1, first paragraph. and 2º, considering the provisions in art. 81 of the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education no. 9.394 / 96, guides that even the face-to-face courses can have moments at a distance. It is the so-called blended education, or hybrid education or even blended learning.
In view of this framework, it is essential to emphasize that not only teachers who wish to play a teaching role in ODL need to be prepared for this function, but all teachers in general, since it is quite possible that at some point they will act in this modality, yet which in a mixed way.
The purpose of this project is to understand how the teaching and learning procedures in ODL occur; check how you organize and plan a class in such a mode; presenting the studio as a teaching space; analyze how the teaching and learning process takes place in the virtual learning environment and the main distinctions between the live lesson and the recorded lesson.

PROJECT: ETHNIC, CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND IMERSIVE TECHNOLOGIES

PROFESSOR RESPONSIBLE: Dr. Germano Bruno Afonso
The objective of this research is to use the immersive technologies, such as the Indigenous Solar Observatory in Immersive Virtual Reality, that we develop, to study, in practice, the cognitive development in different cultures, such as western, indigenous and quilombola, as well as to compare the results obtained. The theoretical basis of the research will be based mainly on the work on cognitive theories developed by John Sweller and Richard Mayer, who applied some cognitive tests, but only in Western students and with multimedia that did not involve Immersive Virtual Reality. The results of the research may serve as a subsidy for the effective implementation of Law 11.645 / 2008, which made it compulsory to teach Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous History and Culture in Basic Education.
